More info
420HC Steel 420HC - a variant with a higher carbon content than 420J2 steel (AISI420). It's a line between 440C and 1050C steel. Steel hardness is about 58 HRC when the oil hardening and annealing to 150 ° C. Even if the content of primary carbides rather low stability of the blade is good. Wear resistance is small. Corrosion resistance in personal experiences were not as excellent as the steel 420J2. Overall 420HC steel evaluated as medium-carbon martensitic steel with corrosion resistance as Sandvik (12C27), but with lower hardness and wear resistance than 12C27. The advantage is easy sanding and relatively good stability of the blade, which is given a share of carbides in the steel structure.
