Insect repellent – general information

Please read the information in this leaflet carefully before using Traveldeet for the first time. The information in this leaflet may change in line with new findings and knowledge.

What is Traveldeet?

Traveldeet is an insect repellent that is effective against mosquitoes, ticks and other types of biting and sucking insects. The active ingredient in Traveldeet is diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), which provides long-lasting protection for 6 to 8 hours.

When should you use Traveldeet?

The product is used to protect against bites and stings from insects and ticks found in your local area. As well as being a nuisance, biting insects can also transmit infectious diseases, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions.

Traveldeet repels insects so that bites occur less frequently or not at all.

Licensed use – The product is intended for use as an insect repellent for human application.

    Instructions for use:
  • spray: remove the plastic protective cap
  • spray evenly onto the skin from a distance of 10–15 cm
  • Apply Traveldeet gently and carefully only to parts of the body not covered by clothing
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap after use
  • avoid contact with the eyes, nose and mouth
  • do not apply Traveldeet to broken skin or the creases of the knees or elbows
  • Apply Traveldeet in daylight 10 minutes before exposure to direct sunlight
  • If you wish to combine an insect repellent with a sunscreen, apply the sunscreen first and wait 30 minutes before applying Traveldeet
    When not to use Traveldeet
  • Do not use Traveldeet if you have had an adverse reaction to products containing diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) and/or ethanol.
    Possible side effects of Traveldeet
  • In rare cases, a skin reaction such as redness or other skin irritation may occur. If this happens, you should stop using Traveldeet immediately.
  • If you experience feelings of weakness or nausea, consult your doctor (if possible, show the doctor the product packaging with the label listing the ingredients).

    Safety precautions
  • Do not spray directly into the face
  • in case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Do not store the product near food, drink or animal feed
  • Avoid contact with the mouth and eyes
    Other warnings
  • Avoid contact with plastics and painted or varnished surfaces (such as spectacle frames)
  • The use of products containing DEET is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Use is not recommended for children under 3 years of age
    Further precautions
  • Use (treated) mosquito nets when sleeping
  • Wear light-coloured clothing that effectively covers the skin
  • Close windows or use insect screens

Note: The use of insect repellents does not eliminate potential risks; it is recommended to stock up on prescribed antimalarial medication.

Registration – Traveldeet is registered with the Board for the Authorisation of Pesticides in the Netherlands. This means that the safety and efficacy of Traveldeet have been extensively tested using a range of modern methods.
