The Mod 2 Boonie Hat is a modernised version of the classic Boonie hat, which was introduced into the US Army’s kit during the Vietnam War and subsequently used in many other conflicts around the world. It was originally designed primarily for hot tropical climates, but thanks to its versatility, it has found wide application in a variety of natural environments and remains one of the most widespread types of military headgear to this day.
The Mod 2 Boonie hat is made from high-quality rip-stop fabric, which ensures high resistance to mechanical damage whilst remaining comfortable to wear. Compared to the original design, it features several practical improvements, aimed at enhancing camouflage, comfort and functionality when moving through the terrain.
The brim of the hat has been slightly narrowed to reduce the risk of it catching on branches, bushes and dense vegetation, without compromising its protective function against the sun and rain. A fabric strap is sewn around the circumference of the hat, allowing twigs, leaves or artificial camouflage to be attached. Additionally, on the top there are fabric strips sewn in a criss-cross pattern, which help to break up the silhouette of the head and enhance the hat’s camouflage capabilities.
Ventilation holes are positioned on the sides of the hat, which improve air circulation and enhance comfort when worn in warm weather. A simple yet effective chin strap prevents the hat from accidentally falling off the head whilst moving across terrain or in strong winds. Thanks to a polymer stopper, its length can be easily adjusted as required.
