The Peltonen M23 Ranger Cub N690 is a compact Finnish fixed-blade knife designed for bushcraft, hiking, woodcarving and everyday carry. Despite its small size, it offers a robust construction, a comfortable grip and a blade strong enough for a wide range of small tasks in the great outdoors. With a total length of just 165 mm and a weight of 80 g, it can easily be carried on a belt, around the neck or in a pocket.
The 65 mm long, 3.3 mm thick blade is made from high-quality Böhler N690 stainless steel with a hardness of 59 HRC. This Austrian steel offers high wear resistance, good edge retention and corrosion resistance, whilst being relatively easy to resharpen if necessary. The Drop Point blade features a Scandi Grind with a micro-facette and a 20° cutting angle, which provides good control for precision cutting and woodworking. The blade’s design also allows it to be used with a fire starter.
The ergonomically shaped handle, made from thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), provides a secure and comfortable grip even when wet or in cold weather. The material is resistant to wear, impact, chemicals and temperature fluctuations. The pronounced texture of the handle helps maintain control of the knife during delicate carving and other tasks requiring precise blade guidance. The handle, approximately 100 mm long, offers ample space for a comfortable grip despite the knife’s compact dimensions.
The package includes a durable Kydex sheath, which offers good resistance to impacts, moisture, chemicals and temperature fluctuations. The sheath is fitted with a paracord lanyard for wearing the knife around the neck and also allows for horizontal carrying on a belt. A strap with a one-way Pull-the-DOT® snap fastener ensures secure attachment, preventing accidental opening whilst on the move. The sheath is also compatible with the Tek-Lok mounting system and can be adapted for both right- and left-handed users. It is supplied in a right-handed configuration as standard. The knife was designed by Juha-Pekka Peltonen, a former captain in the Finnish Armed Forces.
